Marlo Cobb Saucedo achieved a 4-year summer scholarship to the Museum of Fine Arts Houston’s Glassell Junior School, later pursuing unrelated degrees and activity including a B.A. from Davidson College, an M.B.A. from U.T. Austin, and various professional positions before pursuing art. Her labor-intensive work includes drawings entirely of text and paintings and mixed media pieces done in pointillism with 1,000 to 3,500 brightly painted squares forming photo-realistic images if seen from a distance.
Marlo’s cityscapes and
portraits have been actively commissioned since she began painting in
1999. Her work has been shown in Houston at Diverse Works Art Space, Lawndale Art
Center, and in Art League
Houston's Open Show. Marlo was awarded a
grant from the Houston Arts Alliance (then the Cultural Arts Council of
Houston/Harris County) in 2005. She was awarded a scholarship for summer 2007
to attend Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts in Gatlinburg, Tennessee.
One of Marlo's pieces, Downtown Rising, was displayed in Mayor Bill White's
conference room as part of the 2008-2009 Vibrant: Houston Artists in City Halls
show. Her piece Mounted II was installed
in spring 2009 at the facility for Houston Police Department's Mounted Patrol
Detail.
Multimedia work has
recently been created on behalf of preschool classes at St. Mark's Episcopal
School and Regis School
of the Sacred Heart in Houston
for auction to benefit the schools. For St. Vincent de Paul Catholic School in Houston, a large, ornate cross was drawn for the 2011-2012 school year which contains the names of every student and faculty member at the school as well as inspirational verses and a short history of the school.
Marlo's pieces are viewable under "art" at
http://www.marlosaucedo.com, and also on Facebook (marlosaucedo.com).
Marlo, her husband and two
children have found balance living in The Woodlands since returning to Texas from life in the
wild and beautiful Ozarks.
